Old Florida Museum is a hands-on museum that allows visitors to experience what it was like to live in St. Augustine in pre-European times. Located 14 miles south of Castillo de San Marcos, Fort Matanzas was constructed from 1740 to 1742. Used to block the southern route to St. Augustine, the fort consisted of a tower to view approaching vessels and a cannon to fend them off. The fort is accessed by a public ferry.
